I obtain a good deal of fun out of writing, but I spend most of my time giving independent specialist advice in private client matters especially areas covered in my books. How should you chose one barrister over another? From time to time I need to chose one myself. I go first by personal knowledge; second by personal recommendation; in the absence of that, by the quality of their publications, lectures, CV and (so far as ascertainable) reputation; and lastly, by comments in published directories. Fraudulent emails have been sent out in my name. This is the familiar 419 fraud, claiming that the recipient is a beneficiary under a Will, or seeking assistance to recover money in Nigeria.
